우리는 자신감 있는 반려견을 원합니다. 우리는 우리와 유대감이 깊어 가족의 일원이 되고, 팀의 일원이 되어 우리가 요구하는 대로 행동하는 반려견을 원합니다. 어쩌면 스포츠를 즐기고 싶을 수도 있고, 아니면 그저 하이킹을 가거나 가족을 방문할 때 함께할 멋진 동반자를 원할 수도 있습니다. 그것이 우리가 염두에 두고 있는 것입니다. 우리에게는 이런 목표가 있죠. 그래서 제가 강아지와 하는 모든 일에서 제가 여러 번 언급했던 내용을 되새기는데, 그것이 바로 저의 5C 공식입니다. 연결(Connection)로 시작하죠. 음, 강아지와 연결되지 않을 사람이 누가 있을까요? 제 말은, 강아지들은 귀엽잖아요. 정말 놀랍지 않나요? 그래서 연결, 그 다음은 명확성(Clarity), 그리고 자신감(Confidence)입니다. 저에게 있어 명확성이란 어떻게 흥분해야 하는지, 어떻게 차분해져야 하는지에 대한 명확함에서 시작됩니다. 그것은 첫날부터 시작되어 우리가 하는 모든 일에 계속 이어집니다. 그래서 제가 강아지와 하는 일들을 살펴볼 때, 스스로에게 질문합니다. 이것이 강아지의 자신감을 키우는 데 기여하는가? 이것이 더 나은 유대감을 주고, 강아지에게 내가 정확히 무엇을 원하는지에 대해 더 많은 명확성을 주는가? 그리고 이것이 자신감 있는 강아지로 성장하는 데 도움이 되는가? 그게 바로 제가 강아지와 하는 모든 훈련의 기준입니다.
We want a confident dog. We want a dog who's so bonded with us that they're part of the family, they're part of the team, they do as we ask. Maybe we want to play a sport, maybe we just want a great companion to go hiking or go visiting family with. That's what we have in mind. We have this goal. And so everything that I do with a puppy, I reflect back on what I've talked about many times and that's my 5C formula. It starts with connection. Well, who can't be connected with a puppy? I mean, they're cute. They're amazing, right? So connection and then clarity and then confidence. For me, that clarity starts with the clarity of how to be excited and how to be calm. That starts on day one and it just carries through with everything that we do. So when I look at things that I do with my puppy, I ask myself, does this contribute to growing confidence in that puppy? Is this giving me a better connection, giving more clarity to the puppy, to exactly what I want? And is this helping to grow a confident puppy?
