저는 리콜러(Recaller)인 아내의 남편입니다. 확실히 해두자면, 저는 이 집에서 반려견 훈련을 하지 않는 사람입니다. 제 이야기를 해볼게요. 14살 된 피피(Pippi)는 한동안 리콜러였고 우리 삶은 아주 완벽했죠. 그런데 아내가 강아지를 알아보기 시작하더군요. 제가 사실 강아지는커녕 개를 더 키우고 싶지 않다고 했던 거 기억하시나요? 하지만 '아내가 행복해야 가정이 편안하다'고 하니 어쩌겠어요, 제가 졌죠. 그래서 이 작은 강아지를 데려왔는데, 귀여운 모습은 딱 2초 가더군요. 타니(Tani)는 그야말로 토네이도 같은 아기 상어였어요. 할머니가 된 피피는 타니를 전혀 좋아하지 않았죠. 타니는 브리더에게 돌아가는 버스를 탈 뻔한 위기를 수없이 넘겼습니다. 아내는 리콜러 프로그램이 우리를 도와줄 거라고 말했죠. 그들은 프렌드십 게임을 했고, 피피는 훈련을 도왔으며, 그 미친 캐나다 여자는 매일 우리 TV에 나타났어요. 계속해서 '홉 잇 업(hop it up)', '겟 잇(get it)', '브레이크(break)'라는 말과 정말 정신없이 즐거운 시간, 그리고 많은 달리기 훈련이 이어졌죠. 어쩌다 보니 저도 그 모든 일에 휘말리게 되었습니다. 타니는 빗자루와 다른 여러 가지 것들을 정말 무서워했거든요. 알고 보니 그런 것도 훈련할 수 있더라고요. 지금 타니는 삶을 즐기고, 에너지가 넘치며, 매우 호기심 많고 독립적이며, 영리하고 정말 예뻐요. 1년이 지난 지금, 타니의 리콜(recall, 부름에 응하는 것)은 놀라울 정도입니다. 슈퍼 피피! 할머니는 이제 타니를 정말 아낍니다. 그리고 가장 좋은 점이 뭔지 아세요? 타니가 제가 시키는 대로 하는 것을 보고 다른 개 주인들이 정말 감탄할 때면 제가 좀 특별한 사람이 된 것 같은 기분이 들어요. 그래서 네, 처음엔 의심했지만 지금은 완전히 이해합니다. 저는 제 모든 여자들과 해변에 가는 것을 좋아합니다. 할머니 피피와 토네이도 타니가 함께 어울려 지내는 것을 보는 것도 정말 좋아요. 물론 저도 우리 작은 딸아이에게 푹 빠져 있답니다. 우리 아내 정말 잘했고, 리콜러 팀에게도 정말 감사합니다.
I'm the recaller's husband and just to make this perfectly clear, I'm the non-trainer in this household. Here's my story. 14 year old Pippi had been a recaller for a while and our life was pretty perfect. And then the wife started looking at puppies. Did I mention I didn't really want another dog, let alone a puppy, but happy wife, happy life, so I gave in, didn't I? We got this little girl and her cuteness lasted about two seconds. Tani was a baby shark in a full-blown tornado. Grandma Pippi did not approve of her one bit. Tani narrowly escaped being returned on the bus back to the breeder plenty of times. The wife said recallers will get us through. They played friendship games, Pippi helped with training, and the crazy Canadian woman made daily appearances on our TV. There was constant hop it up, get it, break, and stupid flat-out fun and a lot of running. I somehow got roped into it all. Tani was also terrified of the broom and lots of other things. Apparently one can train that too. She loves life, she's full of beans, really curious, independent, smart, and really quite pretty. A year on and her recall is amazing. Super Pippi! Grandma adores her. And you know the best thing? I feel a bit special when the other dog owners are totally impressed just because Tani does what I ask her to do. So yep, I had my doubts, but I totally get it now. I love taking all my girls to the beach. I love watching Grandma Pippi and Tornado Tani hanging out together. And of course I'm besotted with our little girl. Well done Wifey and thank you Recallers.
