만약 반려견이 어디서도 음식을 먹지 않으려 한다면, 우리는 경험적인 측면을 살펴봐야 합니다. 그래서, 첫 번째로, 한 가지 가능성을 배제해 보죠. 반려견에게 자율 급식을 하고 있다면, 즉 사료를 그릇에 담아두고 하루 종일 그대로 둔다면, 그런 행동은 그만두어야 합니다. 왜냐하면 반려견에게 음식을 무시하도록 가르치고 있기 때문이죠, 맞나요? '아, 저기 음식이 있네. 언제든지 돌아와서 먹으면 되겠지.' 만약 도처에 음식이 널려 있다면, 아마 그 음식에 대한 식욕이 떨어질 것입니다. 반려견이 자율 급식을 할 때 흔히 이런 일이 발생하죠. 그래서 반려견에게 밥을 주는 것을 하나의 '사건'으로 만들어야 합니다. 음식을 제공하고, 5분 정도 시간을 주는 겁니다. 5분 안에 먹지 않은 음식은 치워버리세요. 끝난 겁니다. 만약 반려견에게 항상 음식을 제공하고 있다면, 하루에 두 번 식사 시간을 정해야 합니다. 반려견이 먹고 싶은 만큼 먹게 한 뒤에 치워버리세요. 우리는 식사 시간이 하나의 특별한 사건이 되기를 바라니까요.
If your dog just won't eat food anywhere, then we've got to look at experience. So, number one, let's rule out. If your dog is free choice fed, meaning you put their food down and you leave it there for the day, you've got to stop that behavior because you're teaching dog to ignore food, right? Oh, it's there. I can come back anytime I want. If there was like food everywhere, you might lose your appetite for that food. And a lot of times that happens when dogs are free choice fed. So, feeding your dog is an event. You present them with food, you give them a period of time, five minutes, whatever they don't eat in five minutes, you take it away. It's done. If you are offering your dog food all the time, it should go down twice a day. They eat what they want and then you take it away because we want it to be an event.
