Hello everybody! Now it says Susan in this, but I guess right now it would be appropriately more this and Susan. Welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome. Again, another live, all focusing on dog agility. And I've got a lot of things again to share with you today. This is more about overcoming challenges. And those of you who are new to training agility, you might say, well, Susan, I don't have any challenges yet. I'm too new. Stick with me because I will fix my camera. I will share with you a simple little acronym that will help overcome. It doesn't, it isn't specific to just dog agility. It's, it's what I've used for, I don't know, 30 years. Okay. Yeah. I would say close to 30 years to help me with my own dog training challenges. Okay. So I have a question for you. First of all, as you're coming in, I would love to know where you're from and are you training in dog agility, which if you're doing it, we all are, or are you competing? I I'm just brand new. I'm training. I'm not really, um, I haven't really done my first competition yet. Let me know training in dog agility or, um, I've already done my first competition or more. Yeah. Let me know from Virginia. Yeah. Competing and from New Hampshire, Nancy, welcome. All right. I, well, people are filing in here. I have a question for you and it's, this is a great question. And then there's no right or wrong answer because it's unique unique to you, unique to you, your biggest challenge roadblock or difficulty that you're finding in dog agility right now is I see I'm missing a Y off of there. What is your biggest difficulty or challenge that you have training in dog agility? Because this is about, this is about challenges. Today's about overcoming challenges and we're focusing on dog agility, but guess what guys, the approach is the same. The approach is the same, no matter what your challenge is. So let me know. Um, we've got people from the UK. We've got people from hi, Michelle. So what, because I want to take what is a challenge and I'm going to help you guys overcome it today. So I need to know what your challenges. Yeah. This does look, let's do, let's just do a little disc cam right now while everybody's filing in. We'll just do a little disc cam. Yeah. She's, she's loving her new, um, climb topper. That's for sure. And I apologize to the people at blue nine, if they're not called climb toppers, they're so new. I don't even know the name of them yet. Okay. So I would like to know if you're training in agility or you've already competed or you're still competing or you've been

competing for a while. And I'd like you to tell me what is your biggest challenge? Hey, Linda from Sweden. Hey, Mandy from Alaska. What arousal level? Nancy says. Okay. That's a good one. So what is, Oh, we've got some people here who are H360 students. I see or handling or agility nation students getting my young dog to wait at the start line. That is just a common one, a common, common one. Uh, my dog comes, Hey, North Inaz from Fort Erie, Ontario, practically neighbors just down the road. Okay. Maybe an hour and a half. Um, my young dog comes in and barks at me. She says hi to the judges. I need to make myself more interesting. Start line stays. So we got two now for start line stays. My, my young boy hit one year old has won two shows with first place best in breed. Hard part in training is keeping his attention while my wife is present. Um, so we've got a couple distractions. So there's distractions and start lines so far. They kind of are related guys. What is your biggest challenge in agility? Getting my beagle's nose off the floor. That's even in competition. Uh, Tomoko from Hawaii is competing challenges, our start lines and knocking bars. Hello, Tomoko. I'd like to personally come and help you in Hawaii, especially as we get into the Canadian winter a little more. Um, looking forward to competing and champ next courses next year for the first time. My dog will jump the contacts if I don't stay with her. Aha. So we've got several different challenges. And today guys, what I'm going to do, keep writing in your challenges. And I'm just going to tell you about what's happening today. So I'm going to share with you how I encourage all my students to work through their challenges. You know, I have a lot of online students, but I, at the end of the day, I would like them not to be reliant on me. I would like them to be able to figure out how to solve their own challenges. So I'm going to share with you how that works. The simple little acronym that you can keep in your head. I'm going to share with you what it would look like to be one of my online students in our agility program. As you probably know, we have a big cyber event and I know there's a lot of people with a cyber event on right now, but I'm going to share with you why, why, you know, you will want to at least take a look at what we've got. If for no other reason, just to go through the free training that we have there for you. Okay. Uh, remembering courses. Oh, there's a new one. Um, so my start line, Michelle says is losing its value slowly.

So, uh, Dena from South Africa, it's my own confidence. That's a common one too. Better contact says Belinda. Hello from Finland. Uh, Verva, Verva. Hello from Finland. Challenges with a very fast dog. They create their own challenges. And I've been, I've been competing in dog agility for more than 30 years. And I've competed with, well, I guess this would be my 10th dog. I haven't yet competed with her. Every single dog presents different challenges and don't think that you guys are unique. You're all here saying, I have a challenge. That's okay. We all have challenges. And the key is to have a systematic approach that improves your dog and helps you to understand how to prevent that challenge from, from happening with your next dog. Maintaining criteria at trials. Um, so a lot of common. Now, if you were with me yesterday, I did a live yesterday and I talked about the fact that there's so many different things that we have to teach our agility dogs. And including in those many, many different things, these are all these layers that we have to, um, you know, create, create understanding in those layers. If you do it right, if you don't do it right, you end up with these balls in the air and you go like, yeah, I'm going to pick that one. I'm going to work on that one today. And so if you're just picking and choosing what often ends up happening is you end up trying to compete with all these holes. See all the gaps in your understanding and the gaps in your dog. And what I want for you is I want you to have an approach that the layers of learning create understanding. So that teaching a skill isn't just like a tool, it's who you and your dog become, right? That's, that's what we're looking for. And so I'm going to share with you today, what the approach I think is, it's, it's a simple little formula that's going to help you guys understand where to go and what to do. All right. So I'm going to, I've got to write on my blackboard. Uh, so I've got to change my camera and I will do, I'll do it. I'll do demos today with, uh, this, like I did yesterday. So Chelsea, you might have to, um, you might have to raise that up a little bit just in and tip it. So move it over here. So, okay. So overcoming challenges, you might want to just come straight on so that they can see it. Yeah. Just put that part like that. And I can move my, I can use, I can move the whiteboard too. Okay. We're going high tech here today. We're using a whiteboard. So overcoming challenges. This is not unique to agility, but it works brilliantly for

그 약어는 D A S H예요.
agility. Any of you who have followed my podcast or have been a student of ours, you would have heard this acronym before. And the acronym is D A S H. And this is something I've been teaching for 25 years or 30 years, how to overcome challenges. So this is how, let's say that I think the common ones I saw were, um, start lines and contacts. Those are two biggies. So let's apply this to start lines and contacts. So the D the first thing is your dog's desire. Does the dog want to be there? Does the dog want to train with you? Does the dog love what you're doing? And if you could say, well, or does your dog love it too much? So you don't have calm focus. So that's, we've got to dial that in. Now it could be your dog. Your dog isn't feeling well, not feeling well. So they could be in pain. We can't train a dog that's in pain guys. My good friend. Uh, I like to call her my good friend. We've actually only met once, but she's a fellow Canadian. So I call her my good friend, Jean Donaldson. She has this, she has a great approach to dog training. I mean, she's brilliant. And, uh, she's, she says the first thing we have to decide when we're overcoming a challenge is, is there an emotional component? So if your dog is crazed and can't focus, that's an emotional component. If your dog is afraid, so they're overexcited or over aroused and they can't, they can't focus. Now I'm going to put an asterisk beside this one, because a lot of times this isn't what it appears, but if you have a dog and you put them on the start line and they're afraid of other dogs and other dogs are walking behind them, you can't dog train fear guys. You have to work it from it as a counter conditioning exercise from an emotional standpoint, right? So is your dog's lack of desire to train from you? Is it caused by they're not feeling well? And you can say, no, he's always like that. Well, maybe he's been not feeling well for a very long time. That's what I was dealt with, with my now two-year-old dog. This, she just didn't feel well for a very long time. And it took me well over a year to dial in exactly what our challenge was. Okay. So move no further, no sense going to agility class and getting your dog on a contacts or ask them to do a tunnel. If you don't have desire, that is the fundamentals to all dog training. And the lack of desire could show up by your dog, uh, scratching or stress yawning, or they sniff, or they, you might get them to pay attention for a bit and then they leave. The lack of desire quite often in dog agility comes from, we overwhelm the dogs.

They are so overwhelmed and frustrated by not being able to do what you want them to do. And a lot of times that comes from trying to actually, I'm going to sit down. We're going to work because I want to make sure I can see your comments. I don't want to keep going. If you guys are not understanding what I'm saying, so I'm going to sit down and I want to check in with you as I'm going through these. So the, the dog might be overwhelmed because let's say you are, um, you, you, you taught them how to do a jump or a tunnel with a toy out in front or a cookie out in front. And now they don't understand because the cookie's not there at the trial. I don't know how to do a seesaw now because there's no peanut butter at the end. And so a dog gets overwhelmed when we change from what they saw when we were teaching the foundations of it. And we transitioned to, Oh, this is a dog agility. Now when, um, years ago, I saw that, uh, I was, I was at a, a massive big school. They had no paint down the middle of their dog, their contacts, no paint down the middle of the dog walk, no paint down the middle of the seesaw, no paint down the middle of the A-frame. I couldn't figure out until somebody told me, Oh, that's because they teach all their dogs by putting squeeze cheese on all the contacts. And the dogs just lick their way along the contacts. So that's why there's no paint there. Cause the dogs just lick all the contacts. They've licked the paint off with all the, while they're licking the squeeze cheese. What has that got to do with teaching a dog agility? Right? So you've got to look at the big thing. Number one, we know we move no further. Does my dog want to be there? Is my dog engaged enough to want, how do you know? You can tell by their body language. Our dogs are so clear, so transparent. Okay. So I'm going to go back to my board now, change my camera. All right. The next thing we're going to look at, maybe put that, um, that line down the A that's the accuracy of any behavior. So the accuracy of how to teach meatballs, the accuracy of how to stay at the start line that involves criteria. Criteria are the rules of the game. So there are rules to how you do a seesaw. There are rules. You make them up, you make them up. And it's, you know, when I say you make them up, my, my hallucination is most of you watching this have some sort of instructor who guides your development of what that criteria is. Ideally, I know I saw several of you from our programs from handling 360 and agility nation. So I'm going to put an asterisk beside this one. So how I asked my dog to, to do a skill

when they are at home, it involves this. When I ask you to sit at the start line, it doesn't involve moving your feet a little bit. It doesn't involve you, um, paddling or you standing or you getting in a position ready to go. And you go, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm really good with that. Does that criteria. Is it the same every single time you do it? Because if you do, if it is, you have no problem. You know, I did a podcast. I think it was last year where I figured out approximately how many start lines I've done with my 10 agility dogs over my 30 years in including all the times I've trained those agility dogs. Now to keep this in perspective, my, my current dog, I trained two to three times a day. All right. It's a lot of dog training. So I don't know. I think I guess somewhere around 15,000 start lines that I've done with all my dogs. Guess how many my dogs have broke in competition or in practice. I could count it on one hand. All 10 dogs have broke their start line less than five times. I'm good at setting, establishing and following through with criteria. So it doesn't matter if you're doing those of you watching might do running contacts. What is your criteria? Now, if you go, Oh, I just want my dog to, to like touch the yellow. That's vague, vague criteria equals zero criteria. Criteria has got to be what's in your mind. It's, it doesn't matter. What does your dog think the criteria is? That's how they perform it. When they're excited, when they're, they're, they're over overwhelmed with all of the people there. That's, that's your dog's understanding of your criteria. Okay. The next thing is the speed. Now, some, I didn't see anybody in the comments mentioned that you want your agility dog to be faster, but speed often comes by starting with desire and then training criteria in step-by-step forms or step-by-step approach. So let's say my dog seesaw. My dog doesn't like the seesaw. Um, well, there's, I think 12 different behaviors that come together for a seesaw. What part doesn't your dog like, does your dog not like the landing? Does he not like the noise? Does he not like the tip? Does he not like, there's so many different things that have you broken this down? I remember when I, uh, some of you may be like, when I first started agility, I was taught to, um, get the dog on the seesaw and hold the seesaw. So it didn't tip and then give them a cookie when they got in the middle and then slowly lower the seesaw and give them a cookie when they got to the end. So the dogs didn't make any decisions. No, that is not at all. Any way,

shape and form look like what we do now, but how can the dog learn to be fast when they really don't understand how to perform the task? Right. And the final thing, the H is the habitat. And that is the environment. What is the environment like that you've trained the behavior? Have you kept the same criteria in every environment? So you may, oh yeah, I train at the, at the class and we always put, um, a little pit, a margarine lid with some cookies on it for the dog walk. But when you go to, so the criteria you think is your dog stopping and your dog thinks is your, the criteria is eat. And when there's no snacks available, just go. Right. So is the criteria something the dog understands how to do it in all habitats, trials, outside trials, inside trials on turf trials on dirt. So I know that when I, I, I trained stop contacts, I used to teach my dogs to touch the nose to the ground. I had to teach them to put their nose in dirt because I trialed on dirt. All right. So that is a simple formula. I think for many of you, you probably already know where you went wrong. And so now, now you've got to decide, is it that you have not enough, not enough criteria? Oh my dog. So let's say this. If you, sometimes you have too much criteria will lower the speed. Not enough criteria can lower the speed as well. Let me share an example. Too much criteria and the dog doesn't know how to do it. They're going to start thinking too much. I'm not sure. And they're starting to look at you dogs, agility dogs, looking at you are going to go slower. All right. Now let's say you, um, see that blue thing out there. You guys would call that a tunnel, right? So what does tunnel mean? What is the criteria? What is your dog's understanding of what tunnel means? So, Oh, Susan, so think about right now, actually right in the comments, what does the word tunnel mean to your dog right now? Write it in comments. I'm going to come and look. What does the word, if you're doing agility or if you've trained agility, what does the word tunnel mean to your dog? Those of you who are, have already trained it in agility. I got carried away and I didn't even do a share. So we'll do that after this. I just got so excited. Um, run. Okay. Ellen Estelle says the word tunnel means run through it fast. Sue Yen says run through tunnel, run through it, go through a tunnel. Lisa says tunnel equals heaven, run into the black hole. I think you guys, I can tell so far, whoever's answered this, you don't really know what tunnel means to your dog. What does it, I know you think that's what it means to you. What does it mean to your

dog? Tabitha says, I found it means take the tunnel as long as I'm facing it. Take the tunnel entry closest to me. Beth says speed is, yeah, that's a great, great thought. Beth is when a dog's going fast, they're having fun, target the tunnel and run through it. Right? So we're getting more. What does, so L says, take the obvious end and do what guys and do what you're telling me what the beginning of your criteria is. Do you want your dog to take the tunnel and stop dead? Yeah. Take the tunnel. And then that's the end of agility. Take, take the tunnel in front of you. I, some of you said that take the tunnel and then roll over and play dead. Take the tunnel and then go visit the judge. Take the tunnel and sit and wait for further information. Oh, run straight through. Take the tunnel and run straight. That's what it means. Does that mean for everybody take the tunnel and run straight? Oh, run through the exit and look at me. Here's one run through the exit and look at me. So we want our agility dogs to do a tunnel and look, do a tunnel. Oh, there's another tunnel. Do you think that will help a dog go faster? Or would it possibly slow a dog down? Take the tunnel and meet me at the other side. Okay. Sue Yen, can you outrun your dog? Because I can't, I can't, I got no hope, no hope. Run through it as quickly as possible and stay on the straight line unless a turn cue was going. Okay. So let's say that that is the criteria. So Tabitha is getting more specific here. Take the tunnel and keep going with the next verbal. Take the tunnel and listen for me to cue the next obstacle. Okay. We're getting there now, but let's think about this. If you have a tunnel and there's a tunnel straight out, let's say there's two tunnels and you say tunnel and the dog says, oh yeah, there's two of them. And then you say, when my dog's in the tunnel, I'm going to give you a turn cue. You might get a Fred Flintstone. And before they, you're not going to get a dog that understands that's slowing your dog down, potentially setting the dog up for injury. And the dog's going to do what somebody already pointed out. My dog's going to start looking at me because they don't know if I want them to go straight or to turn. That's where having more criteria creates more clarity. So I'll give you an example. I'm going to take this E now and we'll do, okay, little, you have to wake up. Can you wake up a little bit? Let's break. Get this. Okay. Get it, get it, get it. So let's say this was a dog walk or a seesaw. So I want my dog to take the tunnel and come on back and do, she doesn't even have a cue

for this, but okay. So some of you said, I say tunnel. Now I cannot run my dog. So let's see. You're going to have to move that when she goes through. Ready, set, tunnel, tunnel. So she understands, my dog understands the word tunnel mean take the tunnel and run straight. And I'll give you another cue. Take that tunnel and run straight. But what if I'm behind and I don't, I don't want you to run straight. What if I'm behind and my dog can't hear the next cue? So then I could go, hop it up. Yay, get it. Okay. So I could have another word that means don't run straight, take the tunnel and turn. Right. Or I could mean I'm really behind. I need you to turn away from me. Ready? Check, check, check, check, check, check, check. Take the tunnel and turn away from me. Or it could be, oh, oh, oh, oh, this is a new one. We're just learning. I'll just move this out of the way. Ready, set, shh, thisy. Ready, set, give me a touch here. Shoot, thisy. So I said it's a new one. We're just learning. Hop it and shoot. Yay. There we go. Do you see how much slower she was? Because it's a new one. She's not quite as sure with that one. Thank you, little. Hop it up. Okay. So that is something as simple as a tunnel, as simple as a tunnel. Do you see how you could slow your dogs down just by not having them? If you've got a short tunnel, if you're behind, you're asking your dog to fall on their shoulders and respond late. If you have a cue, that means take a tunnel and turn, take a tunnel and go straight, take a tunnel and turn away from me. When they enter the tunnel, they know exactly where the course will go next. Okay. So think about whatever your challenge is. My challenge is my start line. Okay. What is it? Do they have desire? Do they have desire to stay there? Do they have focus forward? There's just so many elements. Okay. So I'm going to share with you now. Um, in our, we have, we have a membership site and I've talked about this before, but before I go too much further, I forgot to do two really important things. Number one, I forgot to give away yesterday's new prize. Okay. So thank you to the people at blue nine. This is a, well, it's called the restore dog bed. I've been calling it a, a, a climb topper forever. Most of agility now we'll call it a climb topper guys. I will not go to another big event without a couple of these for me to have a little snooze on it's memory foam inside it memory foam. Okay. And, um, these go over the climb so that they stay in, in position. And that's what this has been resting on today. You can see she fell asleep. Hello. Okay. I'm giving away one of

these to yesterday's gem winner. And I'm going to give away another one on my next slide, which might be tomorrow or it might be Sunday. But so while I'm reading yesterday's gem winner, what I'd like you to do is if you would like to win a climb or restore bed, come on, come on blue nine, you got to call them climb toppers. If you'd like to win a restore bed from the good folks at blue nine, then you can share. I mean, haven't I already shared a lot of really cool stuff. It's definitely worth sharing, share this live in somewhere in social media, share it on Facebook, share it on Instagram, share it in Twitter, come on back to the comment section and write shared and where you shared it. Okay. And then you will be in a draw tomorrow or Sunday promise before the weekend's out, I will announce who's going to win. And so I'm going to share right now, um, our gem winner from yesterday. So I said, what was your big takeaway from yesterday? And here's what we got. Um, I'm going to take this one off here. This was from Doreen and Doreen said, I don't know if this counts as a share, but my, uh, gem, but my absolute favorite part of the video is Susan illustrating the concept of how important voice is to handling by demonstrating five cues with momentum. I just demonstrated four more with this. Um, wow. Perfect visual of how the handler and dog work as a team to achieve the desired outcome. My second gem is a bit of a paraphrase. Hey, they thought we were crazy when we started to use sounds like a Lala. Hey, crazy, like a Fox. Handling is about teaching your dog what one word means, and it can only mean one thing. So when tunnel means several things, guys, you're asking the dog to slow down and consider what you really want from, from them. Right. And that's just one of the ways that we potentially are going to be confusing your dog. And in our, I mentioned that we have a membership site. So I'm just going to share with you how you could troubleshoot this in a bigger way. So our membership site is called agility nation. And when you go to agility nation, what do I mean by membership site? It's not a course, it's not a course, but there's 400, 400 lesson plans in there for you. It's not a course though, because what it is, it's a membership that every week we add a new piece of information, a new game, a new troubleshooting. Oh, this, he's got us. She's got her back. And for example, you can decide, Oh, I've really got a struggle. I want to work on. And you can say, well, we could say, is it jumping? Is it weaving? Is it

contacts? Is it teaching agility skills? Is it essentials for the handler? Or is it about focus? So that's what these are. We call them dream streams. Almost 400 pieces of equipment. Actually, I think there's more because here's what I did back. I don't know what year it was. I came out with a course called contact success. And that entire course with a thousand dollars. And it was many years ago, many years ago, we put the entire course in agility nation, how to teach a stop dog walk, how to teach a stopped a frame, how to teach a stop dog seesaw. It's all in agility nation. So it's well over 400 lesson plans for you in there. Okay. So then you might go, well, what's the foundation? So you, you met, I mentioned that there was agility training foundation. Well, let's say you've got a puppy. Let's say you want to teach obstacles. So you name it, anything that's in agility tunnels, how I taught those, those tunnel turns. It's an agility nation, how you improve your dog's speed, how you would, you know, it's all there. It's all in agility nation. And it's not just me teaching it either guys. It's some of the best, most successful handlers in the world. You might have a focus about, I need distance work or I need to teach body awareness. So fitness name a fitness professional in the sport. Well, of any sport. So any, they're probably have got, they probably have lessons in agility nation because some of the best fitness competitors or fitness, not competitors, fitness minds of the, of the world have contributed to agility nation. Right. Cause I, I love doing fitness with my dogs, but I love learning from other people. The same with, same with, um, jump training. I love learning from other people. All right. So you might say jump training. Can, do you have to put in some essentials? Do you have to teach terms? So those are the things that are in agility nation growing. So some of you, I want to start training my dog, how to weave. So how I taught two by twos with swagger and momentum are that's in it. And actually with tater salad too, I did a couple of new things with tater salad or my dog weaves, but they, they, they can't stay. They lose their brain when they're under distraction. So how do you deal with distractions? Those are the sorts of things. Am I making sense or am I creating more confusion? It's not a, it's not a course, but there's lesson plans for you in, in, in within agility nation. Okay. So it's all there. Whether you want to teach a start line. Um, I actually wrote a book on, um, how to troubleshoot your start stays. The book is

it agility nation? Yeah. Okay. So, um, that is this, this was how to troubleshoot, but now that you know, Oh, I need more criteria. Well, how do you get that criteria? You need a really good lesson plan. 400 lesson plans are in there for you. All right. Whatever it is that you're troubled with start lines, we pulls seesaws. So there was a fellow and I'm as a side note. Um, so there was a fellow who is in agility nation and handling three 60. He won a silver medal at the world championships and he started his new dog and he sent us a little SOS. He said, my young dog just made it onto the front. He's from France to the French world team, but my seesaws is a mess. I mean, I went to all these competitions trying to push for speed and now she won't stop and she just sails off and sails off and sails off or bails off. And can you help me? I said, yeah, I'll help you if you documented and share it all in agility nation. So troubleshooting how we came from a dog bailing off to a dog stopping. It's all in agility nation. You know, it's been around, I believe for eight years and we put four pieces of dog training or agility content or, or, um, can't think of a, what to, what to train today, or you want to set up a little sequence in your backyard. We've got a whole section called backyard and which is just little sequences for you to set up in your backyard. Right? So all of that, that's what agility nation looks like. Um, there's some footwork drills for humans to get faster. There's a lot of ways for dogs to get faster. Okay. So, um, I'm just looking through some of your questions. Somebody, Sue Yan asked, when should we start competing? Start competing when, for me, it's when my dog tells me. So this, as I mentioned, is two years old. So yeah, she's two years and three months. She's never been in a competition because she's not confident yet. And, um, I've had a dog that was getting ready to try out for the world team at her age. I've had, I think every dog before her was competing at 18 months. The dogs tell you, we set our goals. We set our training plans. Our dogs set our pace and it goes terribly wrong when we don't respect our dogs and allow them to set the pace. We just keep moving them on. So our dog's confidence will tell us when we're time trying time to, to, um, now I'm not saying if your dog understands all the equipment and you you're the biggest thing is your handling. So if you're new, if you're new to this, oh my gosh, you, you really need to start with handling 360 because that creates clarity so that you both have confidence going in the ring.

We have people who are brand new to agility that start with agility, with handling 360. And, um, we also have people like Courtney Moore who just won the, in the United States, the UKI, uh, the American open. I don't know what they call it down there. UKI open. Um, one of our handling 360 students, um, Angie Benacuisto and her amazing dog Sunday, Angie just won the European open this summer and Sunday started in handling 360. So it doesn't matter if you're brand new starting out or you're already like Tomas already won a silver medal with his past dog, but started all over in handling 360. Okay. So that is, um, that is really where you have to decide. Where you are now, everybody watching this, I encourage you to go to dogsat.com forward slash cyber, but then yes, you will learn about what agility nation and what handling 360 looks like. But what I have for you, there is a six part mini series. That's only going to be available until Monday, Monday at midnight. It's a six part mini series on how to deepen the connection you have with your dog, whether you want to do agility with your dog, whether you want a dog that listens to you at the park, whether you want a dog that listens to you around the house. So if you watch my live from yesterday, I did, um, well, I had Kim do demos with, um, my seven month old puppy. And with my, I did some demos with my seven year old dog and you saw, you could see this. And even with this, you could see that connection. So go and watch that six part series. It's only 15 minutes each video. So it's 90 minutes of your time and it's only going to be available until Monday. So watch that. And there's actually some lesson plans in there as well for you to start deepening your connection with your dog. Okay. I'm going to go and see if there's any questions for, for you here. Do you have questions from Chelsea? So Suyen asks, how do I motivate my demotivated dog? She runs off in the ring. So Suyen, I mentioned that that happens when we overwhelm the dog. I mean, it could be a number of reasons, but it sounds to me like how clear is your handling? Let me show, I'm going to do a demo with Chelsea. I'm going to do a demo with Chelsea on, um, you're going on camera, Chelsea. Sorry, I forgot to tell you. Um, I'm going to do a demo of some of the mistakes a novice handler makes. All right. So I'm going to, we're going to put this up. I'm going to change the camera. All right. So this is what we're going to do. So you can drop, you're going to, you're going to be my dog and you're going to run this course. So you can drop the bar. You can drop the bar.

And instead of going through the tunnels, not going to make Chelsea go through the tunnel, but I'm going to ask you to touch the beginning and the end of each tunnel. Okay. All right. So we're going to do, we're going to drop the bar and the beginning of the end of each tunnel. So you're going to start at that tunnel. That's my start line. Okay. So this is a mistake. I'm going to, I'm going to handle Chelsea. Well, first Chelsea is a horse person. She's actually a canine massage therapist, but she doesn't know about dog agility. This is her first time ever out in dog agility. All right. So you're going to touch the beginning and the end. So I'm going to, I'm not even going to use words because she doesn't know words. Okay. So I'm just going to handle. You're going to touch. So do you see how clear my handling is for her? See, I have that connection with her. Now we just ran a qualifying run. Everyone applause for Chelsea. Okay. You're not done yet. Now this is one of them. This is says I can help you with that. This is says I can help you little. Let's see. You can up it up. You can show after how it's done. So this is a mistake that, that, uh, novice handlers make. Okay. So novice handlers run into their dog or they, they go behind their dog and then it goes, what, where did, where did you go? I'm not sure what you want. So that's a big mistake that maybe to see, can you just put those jumps up, put them up and we'll do the same thing with this. You put them, um, they don't have to be super high. All right. I'll show you that with this, what that would look like with her. If I can remember the course I just ran break. Get a sink. See if you can do it as well as Chelsea did. Can you do it as well as Chelsea did? Yay. I don't, I have to be faster though. So can you, thank you. And sit. Good. Tunnel. Yeah. You were super good. Yeah. You were just as good as Chelsea. Okay. How about that? I don't know if I did the same course, but it was close, close enough. Close enough. Okay. Got a marker in my pocket. Okay. So I hope that makes sense. That's exactly what happens when unfortunately novice people start off with either misinformation, poor information, or they just try to gather information from a bunch of different sources, right? Remember what I said happen is if you try to gather all the information we have for you in dog agility, and you just don't have it put in, in a, in a, um, a way that makes sense, you end up with these holes and when, you know, having holes, isn't having layers. And so what we do is we end up confusing

the dog. And a lot of the times the dog just don't want to do agility no more. Mom don't like this. And people will say, Oh, that dog just doesn't like agility. No, no. There's some, there's, there's some challenges in the way that they were taught. Okay. I see a question. Can we do recallers and handling 360 at the same time? Um, I would recommend that you talk to go talk to my team at wag at dogs that.com because I don't want to say, Oh yeah, join it all because maybe you're at a place where you're not quite ready for it, but if you've been doing recallers and you're starting to see some connection develop, then yes, because one will compliment the other. We have a lot of people who Sue Yen, I'm extremely holy. That's awesome. So we have, do we have a lot of people that do recallers and handling 360 at the same time. And before I get asked, there was a question yesterday, can I do agility nation? I, you know, I went all day yesterday and I didn't reward her. Oh, search. Can I do agility nation and handling 360 at the same time? If you're, what I would recommend is you start handling 360, you get a couple of months in and then contact us and say, I would like to add agility nation because I don't want you to overwhelm yourself, um, or overwhelm your dog. All right. Uh, okay. Another question. Any other questions? Um, does it teach how to build desire? So Sue Yen, I would start with handling 360 because handling 360, the base level is all about building desire. I think you'd be, and, and if you join handling 360 and we say, Whoa, um, you might be better for recallers. What we'll do is we'll allow you to put a pause on handling 360 and we will switch you into recallers. And then when you're finished recallers, you can come back in and pick it up. And we, and you, you won't have to pay for recallers at that time. If we decided you might be overwhelmed and then you, you would just pay for recallers to join. I might not be getting that backwards, but that's if you join handling 360, Sue Yen. And it, and if it, if we say, yeah, you might be better served doing recallers, then we'll just put you back there. Okay. Um, any other questions? So I hope what, what I, my point for today was to help you understand, we might be causing more confusion in the dog that there's just so many things that we need to teach our dogs. And it's so much clearer when you break things down. D A S H. Is it an emotional problem? You got to deal with that first. So if the dog is super fearful and you're going to a class,

that might not be a great solution for you because there's just so many opportunities for that dog to get worried. Uh, Julia wrote handling 360 took me from basic beginners to running both of my dogs in championship events. Susan doesn't just teach dog training. It's a way of thinking of analyzing of training with science and kindness. I've also done recallers, which helped me grow my connection with my distracted dog and got you. She sure did Julia and got him more motivated to work with me. Susan's educational programs really are life-changing. There we go. Thank you, Julia. That's amazing. It's beautiful. Um, so there was a question I just saw. Is it better to start with, uh, agility nation than, uh, or handling? I sue definitely start with handling 360 and, and handling is, is the most important part of agility. It's not about the obstacles. If you are a blessed handler, which you will be, it's just an education process. Once you have that clarity, then things are so much easier for your dog. Absolutely. Um, okay. That's the one I want to have up there. Okay. Any other questions? Can toy poodles do this? Yes. Any breed, any breed can do this. What age should you, should you start? It really depends on if you, the connection with your dog now needs some work, then I would really encourage you to start at recallers. If you're like, we, we, we've got a great connection or a connection is on its way. Then, then you would start at handling 360 and we've got a puppy stream for you there. I, I want to be really clear. Do not condone doing agility obstacles with puppies. So the seven month old puppy I showed in my live yesterday, there's so much that you can do before they have to see a dog walk or a seesaw. So, uh, belief who's seven months old, she has not been on any of that equipment. We're focusing on fitness. We're focusing on recaller games. We're focusing on connection. So I feel very strongly about that. There's, there are a lot of agility competitors that will be running their six month old puppies on courses. Oh, the bars are on the ground. It's okay. I personally think at best you're teaching a dog just to flat out run and not jump, which will lead to jumping problems. And at worst, you potentially could injure that puppy. Uh, assuming this will also help in the confirmation as well, as well that, that troubleshooting formula, absolutely rose. Uh, hi from Ireland, Carol. Bugsy wrote, have been doing a, uh, Julie, uh, H360 and it's a game changer. Can't thank you enough, Susan. Thank you, Bugsy. Okay. Um, Tori that if you're halfway through recallers,

then you absolutely would be perfect. You carry on with recallers and start adding in your handling 360. You'll see some overlap in the beginning, which you will breeze through not in the games, but in the philosophy, because in the philosophy at the beginning of both, whether it's to create an amazing family pet or have an amazing agility dog is about the connection that you share. Super, super important. And if you have a dog who's Sue over the top, overexcited, then we need to help them focus and to be able to work when they're excited about something. So that's like, there's, there's people who have problems at either end of, of that. Uh, what is your agility? What is agility nation? Is that what you're asking? I'm not sure. And as give me more information on what you're asking. And as, um, Lisa, what do, what do you do with an over aroused dog at training and comms, but okay at home in a small backyard, we break down what they know. So if you have an over aroused dog and there's several reasons why they might be, if they're too excited, then they just can't wait to do the work, all those toys. Oh my gosh, I'm so excited. My dog Buzzy. And I would say swagger was like that as well, that they just get super excited. Then we, we, you know, we have games in agility nation that, and inhaling 360 that teach your dog, how to listen when they're excited. And we start with little things and then we go to more complex things like how to do a tunnel, a tunnel and a turtle, how to do a tunnel and turn, even though there's another tunnel straight ahead and I'm miles behind you. Cause some of us aren't going to be up where our dogs need us to be. Right. I'm just not a fast runner. And I'm sure some of you feel the same. Okay. Any other questions? Okay. Then I am going to sign off. Oh, before I go, before I go, I'm going to give away that toy that I was just playing with. Can you bring me that? Bring me this over here. Not that. Bring me that thing. It's up on your bed. This up. I could have got up and got it myself. Bring me. Yeah. That's what I'm looking for. That's what I'm looking for. Okay. I'm going to give away two of these. Uh, it's a tug toy from, for my murals. Um, I just love these toys. It's a bungee. I'm going to give away two of these. Go to my page. You'll see a post that says gems. Did you learn something that was pivotal for you today? Did you learn something that you went, Oh, that makes sense. Did you learn something that was like, Oh, I get it now go to my agility, uh, Susan Garrett, dog agility. It's my Facebook page and share there the gem that you learned today.
