It doesn't matter what your goals are. You may want to have a search and rescue dog that goes into disaster zones. You may want to be a world champion of dog agility. You may want to just have your dog listen to you at the dog park. We all start at the same place. Okay, so let's get going. I've got something I want to share with you to start. And I just want to give you guys an analogy because I want you to see how I want to kind of corral your ideas in. Let's say you have a child and rather than a dog, you've got a child that you're, instead of going to a dog training group, you've gone to, you know what? I want my dog, my kid to like the water. I'd like them to do, maybe do water sports, but my ultimate goal is for my kid to like the water. It's kind of important. Right now, my starting place with my kid is, well, he's a little bit afraid of the water. That was me, by the way, as a five-year-old and it took me about 30 years to get over that. Your child might be afraid. Your child might just be disinterested. I just, I have no desire to go in the water. Your dog may have no desire to play. It's your choice. It doesn't really care for food and doesn't really want it. Or your child may be crazed about the water. The rest of my siblings, they love the water, but they didn't listen when they're around the water. My mom had no control over them or their water. Okay. That could be your starting place. You've come to the, to, to the school, Susan Garrett's school of teaching water, water sports, which is kind of ironic since I really don't like the water. And what we were able to do with a couple of games or one quick game is we've got your kid loving the water. Your kid's willing to jump up a platform into the water. Your kid shows joy and confidence. They're engaged in everything that instead of disinterested and unfocused or afraid, suddenly they're like, okay, what are we going to do around the water next? I'm really excited about this. So we've moved from your starting place to a place of joy, confidence and engagement. But here's the thing. The questions we're getting in are kind of like this. Okay. I've got my kid entered at the Olympic tryouts. You've got, okay. Now that he's interested in the water, I've got him on the high diving board and I want to know how can I get them to have better form up there to see where you've gone. You've gone from just getting the dog to have a little focus for you to saying, okay, but how do I get them to stop chasing deer? How do I get them from stop barking

at the, at the neighbors or how do I get them to not jump on people? So like, here's the thing. Everything we do is like a rung of the ladder here. So we're, we're down here and everything that we do to win those trophies, I've had to put in a lot of layers of learning in my dogs so that eventually we get to a place where the joy and confidence my dog has here, they show there. There's never any doubt or hesitation when they get to the high diving board. My dogs at the world championships have every, the same amount of confidence that they have playing. It's your choice. And the reason for it is because we put in these strategic layers of learning and guess what the form of every one of those layers, the form comes in and play a little bit of hangman. Is that politically correct to call it hangman anymore? There's probably a more politically correct word for it. So every one of these layers of learning comes to my dog in the form of a G A M E. And that's how we maintain the joy and engagement and confidence every step along the way.
