And also to answer the question, is success possible for all dog and handler teams? And I think at first we have to decide how does each of us define success? So I, I did say, I'm going to give away another tug toy. Um, so I'm, so if you have any questions, you can leave them in the comments. I couldn't find a video for bed games. I'm not sure. Um, do you mean within one of the programs? If you look for hot zone. Um, but I think most tutorials for the in-depth tutorials for that are, um, in handling 360 and in homeschool the dog, I could be wrong. Somebody on my team will correct me if I'm wrong. Okay. I'm going to start off with a question and it is, I don't have a puppy until January. Can I buy now and wait to have access when I start? I don't want to miss these details. Um, do you have only online classes? Is there any offline classes to learn? Okay. So let's talk about that first online classes versus in-person classes. And I think there's value in both of them, um, but, um, I first want to address you're getting a puppy in January. First of all, congratulations. Secondly, this actually is a great time to dive into recallers. There's so much like you, the success you have with your puppy is dependent upon your understanding of the application of the mechanics of dog training. And so to be able to have access to our program ahead of time before you get that puppy is a true blessing. And, um, and so I would not wait until you get your puppy because there's so much going on then jump in now, dive into the lessons. There's a lot of lessons that are just for you that really don't involve the puppy just yet. So absolutely 100%, I would say jump in now and start learning. Okay. So that's number question number one. Now let's talk about, um, in-person versus online. When I started online classes with, for dog training, and I was probably one of the first, uh, online classroom for certainly in the sport of dog agility and probably one of the first in dog training. So it was back in 2009 that I started doing things online. And when I asked somebody who I really respected their opinion of, they had one of the largest, uh, daycares in the United States. And I asked them, do you think this would work online teaching my games like recall, like it wasn't called recallers back then. And she said, really dog training is mechanics. It's not going to work through a computer. Um, so I thought about that for a little while. I think that was in 2007, I was having

that conversation and here's what I I've learned since then. I have taught a lot of one-on-one privates where I would have students who would come, one student would come twice a week with two dogs. And so she would get two hours of one-on-one privates with me with, so an hour with each dog twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays. I've also taught weekly classes where I've had, um, if I was teaching by, usually it was 12 people and I had a assistance helping me with the 12 people and their dogs. I've also taught seminars where I've traveled all over the world and I've taught groups of probably 15. I've also lectured, um, to large audience audiences, like a thousand people in a lecture theater. Actually, I think the largest is 10,000. So I've done all different variations of dog training. And my observation is you as a dog owner can learn from all of them. There is something to learn by sitting in an audience of a thousand people because somebody is going to have a question that you would have never thought of. So a massive large audience is amazing because you're going to go, Oh, that, that helps me see things in a very different way. And people that come one-on-one, obviously I can tell them about where to put their hands and, you know, I can give them the minute details, but even though I believe there's something to learn from all of those, uh, opportunities to educate yourself, none of them came anywhere near the level of skill and education that my online students got. And it shook me because I thought, am I not very good in person? Why are my online students learning better than the people that are coming to me for one-on-one? And here's what I realized. My, my online students were becoming little Susan Garrett's. They were talking the same things. They were saying the same things to the dogs, hup it up. They were saying, get to ting. They were talking, they were sounding like me because when you are in, let's say a classroom, because I think that's probably the most common thing. When you're in a classroom, you probably have been at work all day. You rush home. Maybe you have to feed the kids and grab the dog who possibly has not even had a walk that day, rush out to class. And you may or may not have gotten something to eat. And if you did get something to eat, it might have been like fast food. And now you're in class and your dog is a little bit distracted because they've been, you know, pent up all day. And you're trying to listen to what the instructor's saying. You're earnestly trying to listen, but your dog's bouncing at the dog next door and you're getting a

little bit embarrassed. So you kind of have to not listen as well. And even if you were like intent, laser focused, you're only going to take in a small percentage of what's been said, which is why when we teach classes in person, we always repeat what we did the previous week to help seed it in your brain a little bit better, which means an hour of your invested time in an online class gives you far, far, far more information than an hour in person because you don't have that repeat. But what you do have when you're learning online is you can video with your phone. Everybody's got a phone video, your own training session of the game that we present. And then you go back and you look at the person I'm teaching in the classroom and go, Oh, I don't look like that. And then you go back and you watch your own video and you do another session. So because you can pause, you can't pause an in-person instructor and go, wait, wait, I don't get that. Or wait, I have to go to the restroom or wait. You can absorb it so much better because it's on your timetable when you are at your best, when you can sit down in a quiet environment and learn. That's why our online classes are so much better. I think our online classes are brilliant compared to many online classes because we've been doing it for so many years. And we're not just doing the same thing every year. We're always redefining the education our students get because I've always said this in all the years I've taught, I've always said your dog is a reflection of your abilities as a dog trainer. So if you're mad at your dog because they're not behaving, you really should turn that on yourself because your dog is a reflection of your abilities. So if your dog is still going to the bathroom in the house, if your dog is jumping on your guests, if your dog is not coming when called, if your dog is not staying on course in agility, your dog is a reflection of your abilities. Now I turn that around on me as well because I say my students are a reflection of my ability to teach. And so if a group of people come through Recallers or a group of people come through Handling 360 and they don't get the skills that I expect, then I need to turn and look at the education process, which my team and I have done over the last 14 years that we've been teaching online classrooms, classes. So that's why I believe our programs are so very good. That's a very, very, very long answer to that question. But just so you know, whether you've been taking online classes, maybe you

haven't been approaching them the way you should, maybe you're just watching a video and then kind of getting the idea and jumping in instead of watching the video, downloading the lesson plan, reading as you're watching, taking notes, looking at the mechanics of what's going on in the video and then videoing your own training. Help me understand when I need to be in class for Recallers. So here's the really cool thing, Lorraine. Recallers is on your timetable. It's a classroom that goes at your pace. So when you join Recallers tonight, there'll be four lessons for you to jump in and learn. And you can ask questions. You can, there's lots for you to download there. You of course are going to watch the videos. Then you're going to video yourself. And if you think, oh, I've got it. You can move on to the next one. So I know my brain is really working at its highest level in the early morning hours. Like we've gotten messages from Michelle, who's baking cookies at 11 o'clock at night or doing her vacuuming at midnight or, and that just shakes me to the core. So the really great thing about Recallers is you need to be in class when you know you're at your best, because I want you to be able to absorb what we're teaching and then you go and train your dog. Another great, great question because, um, Linda Orton Hill was telling me she took a, I can't remember the topic. She bought an online course. She paid $250 for it. She had access to the lessons for one month and she could only watch each lesson three times. Huh? Yeah. So if she watched it three times in the first week, her access was gone. We, our goal is for you to change your life through your dog. We want life with your dog to be 100% different. If you want to watch each lesson 10,000 times, you can. We're going to be there and make sure you have success. But our goal is to help you to start thinking about that conversation. Training is a conversation between a dog and their owner. So our goal is to get you to start thinking about that conversation so that you can start to answer your own questions. And instead of asking us a question, you're going to say, my dog did this. I think this is what I'm seeing. And I was going to do this. What do you think? And our coaches are going to go, you now are well on your way to being an excellent dog trainer. And I cannot tell you the number of people who started in our Recallers program as just somebody struggling with a pet who are now professional dog trainers. And he's in that bed. You know what? I'm going to get another cookie. Then I'm going to give him a cookie so he knows how good these cookies are. Profit break. All right. I laughed And And I just told him I didn't say he was wrong It's a conversation It's rude to tell your friends that they're wrong Especially When all they're doing Is Reflecting back to you All the good that you've taught them Okay So It's Distraction Whether He's A bed Whether he's in a crate Whether he's At my side He Needs to listen to the words And And Respond And If He's like Lagging Or scratching his ear He's showing confusion Then I know I've overwhelmed him I Respect My Puppy's Emotional Responses To Environmental Antecedents That I've created For him I want him to be a success Okay Was there any questions that came out of that? So The question I asked at the beginning is Is it possible Like For all dogs And Handlers teams To be a success? How do you define success? So For me It's bringing out the best of my dogs And having an amazing life With a dog that I love And then I love agility So It's Helping my dog To be as Fast And as joyful as they can be And As accurate As they can be Going around an agility course It's never about I want to be a world champion Yes I've been a world champion many, many times But that's not the goal That's a result of all of my goals coming together There's one question about the session Yep So you ended with tug and hop it up Yep Did you pet him or toss him treats when you left him and hop him That's a great question Really, really good question Where is that? I'm going to see Mary Mullet So you ended with the session with tug and hop it up When you left him in the hot zone So And somebody asked, did I give him a cookie? I did not And here's why If I was doing that session with waffles Yes or no Would I have given waffles cookies When I asked him to go hop it up? Yes or no What do you think? Waffles is We think 17 weeks Four months A little bit 17 weeks Yeah So I don't see any guesses Yes, Robin says yes Okay So Yes So Occasionally I might have given profit a cookie But probably not because all of the reinforcement is built into these games So saying hop it up is reinforcing on its own

And when you use reinforcement in the way that we teach you The activity itself becomes the reinforcer So I could go and train my dogs I could train them for an hour without ever giving them a cookie But why would I want to? I could train them an hour without ever giving them a tug toy They would just they love the games They're interactive They love the games So how do I end the session? I will end I might just say get your kennel Close the door It doesn't And let's say I was working on something and it wasn't working out so swell for me And maybe I was frustrated So Potentially That way I would ask them to hop it up and I would throw them cookies then I would And then I would sit down and look at my video and say Why didn't things go as well as I wanted to? So When I'm training around the house as you will as a member of Recallers Handling 360 Homeschool the dog When I'm training around the house Sometimes Like I asked him to go in his bed because I'm teaching you But if I was training around the house I would just leave the training area and the dog can do what they wanted Like if it was a puppy obviously they would go back to an X-Pen Or maybe we with a puppy I would probably take them outside immediately after training And then put them in their X-Pen where they have like bones to chew on So it So how I end that training session depends on the stage of life each puppy or dog is in And Yeah Okay All right So I have some more questions that came in How do we get a dog to release a toy? So that is really built into our programs And you know there's a lot of reasons why a dog doesn't want to release a toy We teach the release probably before we teach the tug So I'm going to ask you to ask you to ask you to ask you to ask me to ask you to ask me What programs contain training on jumps? Straight, soft turns, rights and lefts That would be Handling360 There's certainly a little bit of it in Agility Nation But the progression of getting focus forward Is that him? Focus forward or drive That is all in Handling360 Is the Veto Game and Recallers I don't think so I think it's in WAG Nation And it's in Which is a part of a homeschool the dog It's definitely in Parts of Handling360 Agility Nation I don't think it's in Recallers It's in WAG Nation Agility Nation I was right Sharon Having a hard time with my motivation I had the number one dog in the country and lost her How do I get it back? First of all We Everybody I'm sure Maybe not everybody Most people Who have Who are old enough to have loved and lost a dog Can 100% relate to how you're feeling It Mister what are you doing? It's tough And you've got to give yourself grace

And you've got to be okay You've got to be okay with where you are at I would recommend if you can Especially if you know people who are in one of our programs A game based training program Where you can maybe help assist Or if you are in handling I don't know if you're one of our students already If you're in Recallers for example Or Homeschool the dog You could go to shelters And just start playing some games Like it's your choice And create games with some of those shelter dogs Because they need some attention And it will help you Not be emotionally attached to any outcomes And also if you are in one of our programs You can just give a shout out And say I'm having a hard time Because our community is 100% supportive Okay How many class hours are involved in Recallers? We want them to have choice So I would jump right to the troubleshooting section Where we're shaping the dog to get on a bed And then we're going to put the bed in the crate And then we're going to shape them to go into the crate that way So with a puppy We start, you know, a little bit different But at eight months Like we want to make sure it's not emotionally upsetting to the dog So that's what I would do And you need to create a limited environment in your home Super important when you have a rescue dog So that's so important We call it a gated community So Waffles lives in an X-pen when we're busy And we can't watch him He gets free time to rip around the house And he of course gets out for training sessions And for walks and short walks But he's supervised He's supervised He's a bebe He's a bebe So he is supervised And he loves shoes He used to And his X-pen We probably could try him in a little bit bigger X-pen We tried to I tried to grow his X-pen environment too quick And he started having accidents in there So we made his X-pen a little smaller And he has not had an accident in there for a very, very long time Is Handling 360 or Agility Nation better for a completely new person to a new to agility? 100% Handling 360 That's a great place to start I would like to train place and I'm interested in crate games Are these in Recallers? Yes So there is a smaller version of crate games in Recallers Yes Do you teach button pressing where buttons have words? We don't I believe there's how to teach the button pushing is in Oh Wag Nation Wag Nation Yes I feel like I'm giving a lot of treats Do I still give normal meals? Oh, really good question So if you have a small dog You have to be really, really careful about the amount of treats And so you have to get Like So this is the size of treats that I just gave Profit Like I wouldn't I wouldn't be giving these out on a routine basis So Profit's a border collie And Like I would That's about So these treats come this big And So I would break them down to that size And if I had like a You know A small Chihuahua Or Papillion Or some other You know I'm taking Papillon or Chihuahua I'd make them even smaller So I Like To Train With my dog's rations And Always give them a little bit of their rations in a bowl So they Do learn to be independently eating from a bowl So So It's really important That you are Not Giving all their meals through their training And We do feed raw So There's A strategy to feeding that way As well What head halters do you use? My dog eats everything It might not You might not have anything like you might have everything up there And so instead of trying to find what are higher value try and find what's really low so you'll know that end it might be easier for a dog who's a real food obsessed dog Somebody wanted to show a training session Oh Okay I'm just going What was the last one of the halter Snoot Loop Snoot Loop Will ICP's ever open again? There is no plans for ICP's to open again No No I Do not see that Aw I remember that Kay Recallers is what made me stop crying over the eight month old rescue that unexpectedly fell into my lap That was a lot of years ago Kay Yes, Mary says dog loving all food is a great problem to have Absolutely Okay I wish my three month old rescue puppy would stop jumping on my son She doesn't jump much while training and it has decreased with me since I don't reinforce it But with my three year old it's different Okay, Marie You have to remember a three month old puppy is Really doesn't have a lot of capabilities And so if you have a three year old child Then you need to create a separate environment Where they get to interact Supervised with you So that the puppy doesn't get the opportunity to jump on your son Because the dynamic If it's guided and supervised with you can be a beautiful one Where you can show especially if you're in one of our programs You can teach your three old son to play some of the games that we have But left unstructured That relationship could go amiss Where your son might get nipped Where the dog is going to get in trouble Where it's three month old I mean my puppy is 17 months old And I wouldn't leave him unsupervised with the child And so we have to recognize sometimes our expectations of a dog Are unrealistic based on their cognitive abilities And it's up to us to create the behavior we wish to see in the dogs The dog is just a reflection of what you've taught them And at three months old It's there isn't a lot that we can teach them

That will equip them to have the emotional regularity To be around a three year old child All right? I hope that helps Okay How many games are different in Homeschool the Dog versus Recallers? Most There is just a few that are similar So there's probably 30 that are different I'm in WEG Nation Is Recallers similar but more? Recallers is very structured They are games that Like it's a classroom that one builds on another That gives you defined outcomes Where WEG Nation is a membership Where every month is a surprise It's kind of like ordering a la carte off of a menu Like, I think I'll just have an ice cream sundae So you are getting a very intentionally designed program with recallers That takes you to a predestined place We have a rescue dog We are keeping separate Lost in how to introduce her into our lives She can be destructive when we shift schedules Again, a rescue dog Or any dog They need the time for us to educate them So just time in our home They will look to the environment to educate them Unless we create a structured plan for them to learn So please, please let us help you with that Because, you know, Disney has created this Fictitional image that dogs just naturally get us And that they naturally want to please us And they're just confused little beings Looking for opportunities to learn So if we can give them structured ways to learn To engage them, to meet their emotional needs They'll turn into this beautiful team with us But if we say, I'm waiting for you to grow up and be a good dog They're going to turn to another educator Which will be the environment And in the environment, there are things to chew There are bunnies and squirrels to chase There are babies to jump on There are mother-in-laws to goose There's all kinds of things in the environment That that dog can find as an educator If we don't give them the structured plan for it And so that's why I just can't encourage you enough to Our programs all have a guarantee So if you think I'm just kind of, you know, blowing smoke up your skirt Jump in and see And then if you say, wait a minute This is actually way better than I thought it was Well then, welcome And if you decide, I don't really feel like playing with my dog on a daily basis Then we'll give you your money back No questions asked You don't even have to tell us why Gated community Let's see I was at my wit's end with my rescue And by the grace of God of it all It was epic I found Susan and her team Now I have the most brilliant and happy dog Don't hesitate Aw, that's beautiful That's beautiful Okay, how do we teach toy motivation when he doesn't care about dogs? Or wait till we are home to start training routines? Oh no The best time to create a first impression is immediately So I'm hoping you're not leaving anytime soon So the first thing I would ask you to ask the breeder Please could you start creating my puppy during nap time during the day And then before we get there, please be creating my puppy at night So as a breeder, when I have a litter of puppies Let's say I had a litter of seven puppies So I would put them into two crates I think I started when they were six weeks old And well, I had the crates there and they would just lay in there on their own And then at night, I started putting them in two groups Three and four into these big crates and close them in at night And then I'd get up early I'd let them out and they'd potty outside They'd never potty in the crate And then as they went to seven weeks Then I had two in each crate and I had more crates By the time they were eight weeks They were all sleeping at night Each of them in their own crate And they went home at 10 weeks and they were fully crate trained So first thing that I would ask you to do is ask the breeder Do you have a progressive plan to introduce the puppy to the crate? Because the worst thing breeders can do Kim is, I know what Kim's reliving in her brain right now Oh, the worst thing a breeder can do is if you know you have a puppy That's got a long trip home and you have never exposed that puppy to a crate You are setting that new relationship up for a disastrous beginning Disastrous Where the puppy is going to be screaming Who is this person? Why am I confined? Where are my litter mates? You can help as a breeder, you can help Now, if it's a rescue, then the foster people ensure that they are probably crate training Or hopefully they're crate training that puppy already So, get yourself into recallers And the first four games, you can start playing them on the way home Because you'll want to take a break every two hours while you're driving Yes, every two hours Get that puppy out You don't have to take them for a big walk Make sure you pick them up And carry them away from where other puppies or dogs might be pottying Go to an area of the grass away in the rest area And you can do a couple little collar grabs

It's walk by my side. It's I do agility. There's a lot of recaller

games that get built into agility games. So you just saw me do, like I'm walking. If I wanted, I saw a dog coming and I thought I just wanted my dog on the other side, I might use a hand target to get him over to the other side. So yeah, you weave them into the fabric of your life and you just keep playing. To figure out what new puppy likes, do you give them access to a large variety of things and see what they graduate to gravitate to? No, I buy a few little puppy toys like these. Do we have a longer toy? So I have a very long one that's probably three or four, like a meter long or three or four feet long because I like puppies to chase things. And I get on the floor and I make them exciting. There is no puppy that won't play with me because I excitedly engage those puppies. So yeah. Collar grab with no collar on. You can play collar grab with a harness. Do online programs break games down into specific details showing mechanics that I can mimic? 100%. Yes, R is the best way to start. Absolutely. What's the best way to start? My dogs have no training, but I have trained in the past and I want a pet dog. Is homeschool the best option? If it's possible for you, the best place for you to be is in Recallers because it gives us a year to coach you. And it's a completely, it's a far more robust program. Homeschool the dog is a great place. If maybe financially you can't make Recallers work for you right now. Or if you're brand new to Susan Garrett land and you're like, this lady's a bit of a kook. Don't know if I want to jump in with both feet. So homeschool the dog is like just 12 games. Recallers is like I said, 40 games plus all these other programs that go with it. So it's far more robust. If you can work it, Recallers is, you've heard from many of our recallers in the comments tonight. That's definitely the place for you to start. How is homeschool the dog compared to Recallers for a rescue dog? Really, it really doesn't, it doesn't matter if it's a rescue dog or not. Ideally, ideally you're going to be in Recallers. Both of them work for rescue dogs or new puppies. Absolutely. Homeschool, Recallers has got a lot more because I said, it's just, it's a full year program. So there's a lot more in there for you. I wonder what can and can't be expected from a puppy, depending on their age. They will tell you in their behavior. They absolutely will tell you in their behavior. So expect nothing, expect nothing and give them lots of love and start building. And that's where having a structured program that will

show you how to build. I mean, the old days when I went to my first dog training school, like it was, get in here, sit, stay, come pop and down. And that was it. This is about real life. Real life is about how does my dog interact in our home? How does our dog, how do I get my dog want to walk beside me? Not that they have to. I don't want to have to put a cookie by my dog's face for the entire walk. So it's about teaching little pieces to bring a dog to understand. So Recallers is a year long coaching program that is game based. So we use what the dog loves, toys, food, permission to do things that the dog loves. And we create a team between you and your dog so that it deepens the bond. It creates this amazing relationship that the dog, you're going to find, they sleep better. They can rest more peacefully. You can learn, you can learn that if a dog makes a poor choice, it's because they weren't given a full education on how to make a better choice, or potentially we've put them in an environment that's overwhelming them. And all that they have is poor choices to make. And they keep going even when they're tired and they start communicating with their teeth more when they're tired. So we need to help them regulate. And when you get a puppy that has had some structured, engaged play, and they've learned because all of our programs are choice based. You saw at the beginning, my dog walked by these cookies. Do you want to get him out and place him? It's your choice. Do I want to? I know you are dying to be on camera, Kim. And so we start with a puppy making choice. Yeah. And then see how far you can go. Maybe you can go in a bowl. Maybe you can go in a... Do you need this? No. Okay. Crystal says, recall this is the foundation for any goal you have. There isn't anything one of the coaches is not at all overcome themselves. They teach you how to think for yourself. So with a dog, like what we think will be of American bully mix, he's going to be a very big, strong boy. And we want that foundation of don't dive at what you want. Is there any reason you choose a propel over fit bone? I like both. I prefer propel for young, for puppies. I prefer something a little bit more stable. We actually use planks a lot with puppies. And then we go to something like a fit bone when they are older. Oh, the plane. Oh, the planes. Yeah. He reminds me, but he does remind us of a little bit of Rigby, right? From Kay. Kay's Rigby. So it's got to be close to a hundred countries. Oh, yeah. What are the minimum tools you need to do recallers? Oh, a really good question. What are the minimum tools you need to do recallers? So a crate, a leash collar, things you need for a regular dog, cookies, toys, your food, regular food that you give the dog. There are two games, I believe that we want the dog to be respectful of everybody. So we try to involve other people so that the puppy will let, so if I was to work with waffles, he would be 100%. So if you have a family, we encourage you to, you teach the puppy, these things first or the dog, and then

you introduce these games to your partner, your spouse, your children. But we also invite you to bring like friends over to one or two of the games, ideally. So access to other, but that's not a game breaker. If you like live alone on a remote island and you don't ever see anybody, they're people. Lorraine, welcome. Just joined recallers. The early lessons in recallers, are longer because we have to make sure we immerse you in the philosophy of dog training as a conversation. And so the videos are a little bit longer, but the sessions with the dogs are very, very short. But as you get on, they might be five or 10 minutes, the videos that gives them the mechanical instruction. But all of the games can be, like, we encourage if you don't have time to train your dog, you have time to play three recaller games. You can do three recaller games while your coffee is brewing. You can do three recaller games after you've done your teeth before you go to bed. So it literally, it's training that no matter how time strapped you are, it gets woven into the fabric of your life. So it gets done. It's not like I have to train my dog and I have to carve out 30 minutes of my life. No. If you can carve out 30 seconds, four or five times a day, you're golden.
