One of these dogs has a spotlight or location specific reinforcement marker, which means come back to me and you will earn a reinforcement. Guess which dog? Treat. Use that specific spotlight with Profit because he likes to chase my girls and I don't want him running through the field. So this gives him a clear marker that he's made a great choice. And come back to me for his reinforcement. Nope. Fat. Treat. What a good decision. What's up the reinforcement Profit gets? Today it's cookies. He's not really crazy food driven. Some days it's a toy. Yes, I still use the word treat, but I deliver toy. Sometimes I ask him for a hand touch and he gets to run ahead and look for the girls. Mixing up reinforcement and keeping it a surprise is another effective strategy for reinforcement-based dog training.
