The sound and vibration collar doesn't do a thing. Help. Okay, Janet. You may or may not have seen the graphic that I had at the very beginning. I just want to let you know what my philosophy is about dog training. And here it is, that our dogs are doing the best they can with the education we've given them and the environment we've put them in. Okay? So, because I believe that, my philosophy in dog training is that we need to help educate the dog. Put them in environments where they can be confident. Because if your dog has got you to the point of frustration at seven months of age, that's when they start to become less dependent on you and they're more curious about the environment. And, you know, Bernadu or Aussie doodles, that's a lot of energy. And misdirected that they're going to find a lot of reinforcement away from you. And so, what we need to do is grow that dog's focus for you. And a shock collar is going to tell the dog, I am the ruler. I have the right to tell you what you can and cannot do. But what I'm suggesting, we can create a collaboration with our dogs, a team with our dog, where they do want to do what we want them to do. And you can do that without the use of physical force. And so, a vibration collar, a sound, even a shock collar used improperly is not going to help if you don't understand the dog's basic needs and how we can help enrich their life by getting focus for us rather than the environment. If you would tell me, if you're on Janet, and you'd like to share with me, what is the big thing that you really feel that you need to get redirection from with that dog of yours? Seven months old, they're really just starting to get curious about what's going on outside of you and their life. Okay, what other questions do we have? Reactivity. How to help a high drive bully breed be less intense when playing with other dogs? Ooh, that's a really good one. So, my bulldog pug Boston Terrier cross, we had that problem with him when he arrived. Oh, hello there, little one. When he arrived at our place, he was 15 months of age. So, I'm just, this is Missy. She came in to say hello this evening. So, Tater Salad had that problem. And he actually was thrown out of, I think, two or three daycares because he was socially inappropriate. And most of the time, he was just like running dogs over. Love dogs. There was an aggressive bone in his body. And I think a lot of bully breeds, they just get, they have no self-awareness when they're playing. I laugh, but it isn't fun when you have the dog that is, thank you for washing my arm. I appreciate that.

When you have the dog that the bully breed is trying to play with. So, what is really, the number one thing you have to do is get a really good recall. And so, you build value for the dog coming out of play. That's really important. And then, if the dog is inappropriate, I just call them back and they hang out with me a little while. Then, I put them on a leash and then we go and I'll tell them they can play again. And so, eventually, they learn, wow. When I ram into dogs, I get called back and we do training at the side. When I am a little more reserved with dogs, then I get more time with the dogs. So, a great recall. Recallers is the place to get it. That's going to help you for sure. That's not the only thing that we did, but that's a big, big part of it. We want to create value for wanting to come to us. I just got a new dog and I need to have him get along with my other dog. And there's an episode called The Togetherness Project that will help you. My girl is a service dog and I'm always thinking, how can I build her confidence in public? She gets, she got barked at and snarled at by a pet, by, at, by a pet in a store. Now she's a bit scared. I'm speaking, are you in recolors? Because there are games that I could direct you to that really would help get that confidence up. But that's what it is. We need to grow that confidence in one environment, then a different environment, then a different environment. But it starts with the environment at home and having an itinerary of games that you can resource that changes your dog's physiology, changes their mental state. And that can help mitigate the distraction of anything that there'd be in their environment. And it doesn't matter if they get snarled at. Or I can't tell you my boy, Swagger, who's 13 years old now, 13 and a half. How many times he's been jumped by other dogs? Once he was seven months old, very, very badly got attacked by a border collie, an adult male, several times in the same outing. And when you have these games that you can bring that dog back to, I'm not saying you don't have to take your time and help reintroduce them to other dogs slowly, but you absolutely, it doesn't mean that this dog will never get, never be able to deal with life in the public eye, especially since it's a service dog.

We need to help that dog to come back to the confidence level that you had before. You don't have to come to me because Recallers is online. That's a great thing. Wait a minute. Sally Lala. So the first thing we do before we bath the dog is we get a connection with the dog so that they trust us. That connection comes through games of value that bring value to the dog's life. They see all the things that you have lined up for bath time. Hey, yeah, I would like to do that. So what happens too often is while we're working on connection, maybe the dog gets skunked. We have to give them a bath. We go right from connection all the way up to challenge. And that loses the dog's confidence. They lose trust in us. And so what we need to do is build up those layers slowly before we give that dog another bath. And it's like cutting your dog's nails. That if you go from, hey, I fed you for the last two weeks. Now I'm going to cut your nails. You're going from starting to connect to challenge. And all of the confidence is gone. And a lot of times that helps to negate, eliminate, in some cases, any separation anxiety. So we transfer value to places that are, that will help us. And that's what the 40 games are to build value for not jumping on guests, to build value for not getting in the garbage and staying off the counter, to build value for things that make life easier and make life more full for the dog. So the dog can go on a family picnic because you know, they're not going to go raid other people's food. You can have the dog loose when your family's over for dinner and everybody's sitting on the floor watching the football game with a plate on their lap, because we know we have confidence that the dog is never going to go around sniffing plates or trying to steal food. So the 40 games are about creating an amazing family pet. And for those of you who want to do dog sports, it's the foundation of focus for work, focus for things that we need the dog to do. That's the 40 games. But I said, that's like the center of the sun, but around the sun, we have these spokes. I can step back and he's great. But if he can see dogs running, I struggle with his focus on me. I'm in the ring. He's 100% focused. See, that is... Think of agility as a challenge.

We've got to create the connection with you and have that connection be as equally valuable as the agility. Or whatever it is the dog wants to do. And that's where the games come in. If all the value is in agility, none of it's with you. So that does make it difficult. Okay. So where's your one you want me to talk about? All of them. Let's talk about how it's coming on all the comments. Let's address everything. Okay. Challenges that keep you up at night. We've got jumping up, loose leash walking, barking, not listening, thresholds, digging, poop, eating. Is that what that is? Nipping. So we've talked about a lot of these. So barking. We've got another satellite and recallers called Barkensteins. And you will focus on those 40 games. But if you have a particular problem, you will just take a side trip to one of those other programs. Dogs that go through a door and burst in and they just tune you out. Like as soon as you get outside. Well, we have what we call threshold training. Where the dog reorients to you. Recognizing that the value comes through you. And that's just, I mean, that's so important. Because there can be danger on the other side of that threshold. Let alone you get your arm pulled out of the socket. Who hasn't had that done? And so it's super important that we want to make sure we get the dog focused in a kind way. Not in a you must watch me. But in a kind way where they want to watch you. So when I have a puppy, I do a lot of training individually and probably the first focus other than their name. I mean, it's all recaller games, but when I get to game day six, which is crate games, that's what helps me allow, allow me to introduce another dog into our training sessions so that the puppy learns, oh, that dog can walk by and it's just a distraction. So, you know, effective dog training is about the strategic introduction of distractions that don't overwhelm the dog, but just help grow confidence in the dog. And once you get to that stage, then you have two dogs that can happily work. One's working, the other's waiting their turn. Both are working side by side and there's no magic. And if you have time to do two dogs in a session, which honestly, most people don't, then the second one get, you get the same game with the second one. you will then go to the oldest dog you're training and you train that dog first because they're a little bit more forgiving of your mechanics not being perfect. But for most of the games, we're going to train either the youngest or the one that is the biggest challenge. So I'll say chase and the food will move. And that's the only time they're allowed to follow the food. Right? So you can do both. Janelle's in. Okay. Look out world. So Recallers works great for puppies, but it by no means is just for puppies. We have puppy, we have dogs of all ages. We have teenagers that are starting the program. Oh, really? So is that coming in on the thread that I'm. Okay. We've got another question about using Recallers. With a remote caller.

So, you know, we don't condone or encourage the use of an electric collar on a dog. And so if you believe that dogs need that, I would, but you are, you do consider yourself a lifelong learner and you can be open-minded. We would encourage you to see what we're doing. But if you are coming to us and you want us to help you with your electric collar and Recallers, we're not going to do that. We actually are going to probably give you your money back. So I'm going to be completely honest. I don't want you to sign up for something that I'm not going to promise you. Recallers is everything. It isn't. It is everything that aligns with our core values. I don't know if I can trust you. If I, I'm not sure about if this would really work. So for people who are hesitant, then maybe wait until homeschool the dog comes around. Is it a streaming service in which I can change devices? I think the answer to that is yes. Correct, Linda? Yeah. Yeah. The answer is yes. You can change device. If I'm waiting to enroll in handling 360, when it is available, would recallers be a good training program to enroll in prior to age 360? We are just starting our agility journey. But she is full on when meeting dogs and has no idea. Acceptable greetings. She's hyper from the moment she crosses the door outside. It's like we have two completely different dogs. Do you think this course is most suitable? Yes. Because as I mentioned, we have a focus on thresholds. So that we continue to get that dog to be... Are you helping? We continue to get the dog that is calm when they cross into new environments. That dogs aren't there for them to meet every single dog that they pass in the street. Oh, excuse us. Sorry. Dogs are there just as white noise. And maybe you have a special dog friend that you get to play with. But not all dogs need to meet you. A lot of dogs don't want to meet you.

And that's what we have to convey to your dog, Linda. So, yes. I think this would be perfect for your rescue dog. Sue Patterson. I was really nervous about spending the money to join Recallers, especially since I'm in Australia. Hence, Australian dollars. But when I looked at the cost of joining group classes or having trainer in, it made sense to at least try it. I can't even explain the relief I felt since being in Recallers. The content is so useful for everyday life. The games are so easy and fun. The coaches and other members are so supportive. Oh, look. I could go on. So, you know, there's many ways that you can train the dog. And what we look at isn't the stopping. How do I get to stop my dog jumping up or stop my dog stealing food or stop my dog running off with the socks? How do I stop my dog from chasing other dogs? That is an approach. We take the approach we call do land. And in do land, we focus on what is the behavior that can replace the behavior we don't like. So, if you have a dog that chases kids on bikes, how can I get my dog to focus on me when there's traffic around? How can I get my dog to come no matter what the distraction? How can I get my dog to understand that it's not their business what's on my counters? Do you understand the difference between do land and I need that electric collar on my dog because he must stop? We get an outcome where the dog won't take things from the counter. But we get it in a way where the dog contributes. The dog is a participant. The dog gets a voice. What is it that the dog loves? The dog gets a voice. I'm not saying there's a great phrase that I put on the very back of my first book. And that is positive is not permissive. I don't want dogs that run amok. We have rules in our house, but those rules are taught. Those rules are taught in a very passive game environment, game-based environment. And so, the dogs want to do the right thing. Why do they do that? Because of the way we engage them in every different environment. And so, I don't have to worry about... I left a bowl of treats down here when I was training earlier today. Because the dogs know, oh yeah, nobody's given them to me, so my treats. Right? Rather than saying, leave it, no. Because what happens when I leave the room and I forgot that I left a bowl of treats there? I don't have to be around. The dogs just make good choices. All right? So, that's what living in do land looks like.

But do land takes time to build up understanding. If you have, say, a four-year-old dog who you're at your wit's end because you've been butting heads for four years. It can happen. It just takes time to help the dog to understand we're in do land now. Things are done differently in do land. From Diana. Okay. Diana, is the first module the same that we just learned? Cook, search, collar grab. No, Diana. It is not the same. Collar grab is in the first module. It's taught slightly different, but it's there. But no. Cook, search. Is search in module one? I don't think so. No. We taught those as extras for people who might be carrying on with us in Recallers, but they aren't, they're not part of Recallers. But they will help you as you move through the program. How often is Recallers open? We do a special promotion where the price, our normal price, I believe, is $797. And we do this big registration promotion once a year. And so you will be able to get Recallers at $797. But, and sometimes, what's that? Black Friday. Sometimes that's a possibility for you too. Hello from Winnipeg. What does game-based training mean? So, I believe that if you have to do work, homework, train the dog as work, that it's less likely you're going to do it. But when the work is in the form of a game that you like to play and your dog likes to play, that you're more likely to do it. But the key is, random games will just bring random results. Random games is just like a series of tricks. But when you have strategic games that have specific outcomes, that will lead you to the behaviors you want. So, the things that we focus on are creating value for the dog's name, that they will come when they're called. The Recall, obviously, is a massive important part of what we do. And conditioning value for the area at your sides, what we call reinforcement zone. That's super important. So, there's several different games that will create the outcomes that will give you those results. And so, that's what game-based means. The opposite would be pattern-based. So, a school might say, we're going to teach the dog to sit by putting a cookie above their nose and having them tip their head back until they lose their balance and fall into a sit. That's repetition number one of the pattern. We keep repeating that pattern over and over and over until the dog learns the pattern. Well, some dogs get too excited by the food and they don't learn the pattern very fast. Some dogs have zero interest in the food and they don't learn the pattern at all. And you are going to get bored. And then the next pattern is the down pattern.

So, there's game-based training. There's pattern training. There's free-shaping training. There's all different approaches to training. But this one we find highly effective because we're changing the dog's physiology, getting them into what scientists would call in the learning zone, in the peak zone of genius, getting them into a higher state of arousal so they're more receptive to the learning. That's why games work so brilliantly well. Yes, Heidi says, I like that I can print off and laminate a card for the games that we've seen so far. So, every game comes with a lesson plan. And then it also comes with what we call a quick tip card. So, the quick tip card, you can print that off and laminate it. And then you've just got the instant reminders when you're playing the game on how you can be successful. So, Kathy says, you know, recallers helped when my dog was in the house. However, once outside, the training vanishes and he's on alert for anyone and anything. So, how can we work on this? Kathy, if you're still in recallers, then there must be something lost in the translation if you're not getting success outside, right? Maybe it's in the way you play the game. Maybe it's in how much help you gave your dog when you played the game. Maybe it's in your translation of what you saw in the game. So, I would encourage you, if you're still in recallers, to go back, start at the beginning, post your video. Post your videos so we can see the games and how you're playing them. And then let's have a discussion about how you are introducing distractions. Because if you're working in a vacuum in your house with no other distractions and the dog never learns how to make a good choice and then you go outside, like, you know, the 17-year-old, first time they get to go to university and they have all this opportunity to make poor choices. It doesn't always end well. How does it? Okay, I got my camera changed. I got to change my camera back to the other one. There we go. So, it should work. If it's not working, then remember, 50% mechanics. Let's help you with those mechanics. Or, potentially, it could be one of those other things that I mentioned. So, if you haven't seen a change like everybody else is saying they're seeing a change, then let's figure out why. We're here for you. How long do you play each game before you move on to the next? Well, Randy, when you're first introducing it, I suggest it's a roughly right approach. Don't go for perfection. Perfection will hold you back. Just another form of procrastination, right? You want roughly right. Go on to the next game. And then come back.

Circle back to that game. And then go on to the next game. As I mentioned, I'm going to... We're going to post my tabs. The tabs that I have that you can record keep in your journal. I'm going to post those in Recallers for you. So, that you can... It will help with your record keeping. And you can... In your index, I like to highlight things that I need to come back to. So, I usually do a smiley face. Tells me what I need to come back to. Smiley face, neutral face, or sad face. So, you want to keep progressing, but keep circling back. And what you will find, the more that you play Recaller games, that you will just naturally be playing 5 to 10 Recaller games a day, every day. Maybe even 10 to 20 of them. How do you recommend us humans work through frustration when going through a training game and your dog not cooperating because they get too aroused, even though you're using low-value treats? So, you need to balance the excitement. Some dogs, once they get on with the games, they will be able to be thoughtful in drive, meaning they will get more excited but still will remain thoughtful. That's not going to happen at the beginning. So, what you want to do is make sure that you're working in a very low distraction-free zone and working with something like it's your choice. Start with it's your choice that you're just going to walk around and play it's your choice and search. It's your choice and search. You need to lower the excitement level to a place where the dog can be thoughtful. So, you need to lower the criteria of what you're asking, aka don't play a hard game at this point. And you're going to lower the value of the food. And you said you have got very low-value foods. Then you're just going to be playing it's your choice, walking, beating the dog until they can go, oh, oh, I get it. All I have to do is search for cookies and ignore the ones in your hand. Okay, now we can learn. Don't try to. It shouldn't be a combative or a frustrating relationship. It should be one of joy. And if you haven't got that, let us help you. So I'm sure I'm just going to share the video that I have shared this video before from one of our Recallers students who had a horrible obsession with cats. And worse than the obsession with cats is she lived in a small town in Eastern Europe where there were feral cats everywhere. So this is Clara and her dog, Jesse.

It's just a little sneak peek at how obsessed Jesse was with cats. And this was after Recallers. Okay. Like if that isn't a success story, I don't know what is. So you absolutely, like that's just an example. That's just an example. It was cats with Clara. Everybody has something that is a massive frustration and we just work at altering the dog's focus. That's the way the games work. So, and that's what I call creating environmental neutrality. So sunspots is exactly right. That's what we do. That's what the cats that used to be the power now are just a trigger to focus back on you. It's win-win, right? And it's all taught through games. Okay. Okay. I appreciate all you teach and it works and I want to continue. However, my family members don't want to follow through. Maybe it's a family issue. Angie, it doesn't matter. Your dog will listen to have a set of rules that work with you and they may not listen to your, the rest of your family. And the rest of your family is going to say, okay, like, just give me one thing, one thing so I can get the dog to listen the way he listens to you. And that could start. And what's going to happen is, you know, I haven't really talked a lot about this. Recallers helps you change your mechanics. It helps you to stop looking at the dog from a place of blame and judgment where you're saying, what did you do? And instead you're, you start looking at the environment. Like, what did I do? How did I fail you? How did I leave you with so many choices? How did I not teach you exactly what you should be doing? And I know that I did it because you would have chose better had I taught you thoroughly. And when you start thinking that way, you become a person who looks at your neighbor and your coworker and the guy that cuts you off in traffic differently. Instead of getting angry, getting your cortisol level all jacked up, you go, what's in my control? Is it within my control? What the dog is doing right now? No. All I can do is help lay a foundation for the dog to make better choices in the future. What's in my control when somebody treats me unkindly in social media? Nothing. That's them. And Recallers has a way of helping you to look at the world differently and to be kind, not just to the dog, not just to your neighbor, but to yourself.
