[음악] 그리고 이번에는 제가 소위 어, '마무리 작업'이라고 부르는 것에 대해 이야기해 보려 합니다. 음, 사실 아마도 잘못된 용어일 거예요. 요즘 들어 그 점에 대해 계속 생각해 봤는데, 언젠가 '마무리 작업'에 관한 DVD를 만든 적이 있어서 그때 이 이야기를 했었거든요. 하지만 실제로 완전히 끝나는 일은 없으니, 그냥 '훈련의 후반 단계'라고 해두죠. 맞아요, 우리가 푸르핑(proofing)을 시작하고, 개에게 계속해서 보상을 주던 방식에서 벗어나, 마치 완성된 결과물처럼 보이게 만드는 단계 말이에요. 맞아요. 사람들이 이걸 깨닫는 게 중요해요. 어, 우리 같은 도그 트레이너들은 아마 비교적 잘 알고 있겠지만, 많은 분들은 그렇지 않아요. 개 훈련은 진행형이라는 것을요. 어느 날 갑자기 멈춘다고 해서 개가 영원히 훈련된 상태로 유지되는 게 아니거든요. 맞아요, 특히 더 복잡한 행동을 가르칠 때는, 유지 관리 과정 같은 게 다 필요하죠. 우리 모두 살면서 여러 단계에서 무언가를 배우고, 정말 잘 이해하고 잘 해냈던 일들이 지금은 하나도 기억나지 않는 경험이 있을 거라고 확신해요. 그렇죠? 맞아요. 예를 들어, 제가 항상 드는 예가 있는데, 저는 대학 때 미적분학에서 A를 받았어요. 그런데 지금은 제 머릿속에 그 내용이 조금도 남아있지 않아요. 정말 쥐꼬리만큼도 남아있지 않죠. 맞아요, 저한테 이차 방정식이 뭐냐고 물어보면 저는 '전혀 모르겠는데요'라고 답할 거예요. 맞아요, 제로죠. 그렇죠? 그러니까 머릿속에 들어왔다가 바로 나가는 것들이 있는 거죠. 그렇죠, 개들도 똑같아요. 훈련 내용을 잘 유지하는 개들이 있습니다 더 오랜 기간 동안 말이죠, 또 어떤 개들은 복습이 더 필요한 경우도 있습니다 개가 개념을 얼마나 빨리 습득하는지 단기 기억과 장기 기억, 그리고 행동 유지와 연습이라는 측면에서 말이죠. 사실 우리는 절대 끝나는 법이 없지만 제가 소위 교육 단계라고 부르는 것에서 벗어나 일반화 및 증명 단계로 넘어가게 됩니다 그리고 개들이 우리가 가르치고 있는 것을 수행하도록 준비시키는 과정입니다 우리가 기대하는 환경 속에서 말이죠 우리가 앞으로 나아감에 따라 그것을 올바르게 해내도록 하는 것입니다 [음악]
[Music] then and we're going to talk about what i call uh finishing work um as if probably the wrong term actually i've been thinking about it lately and i have we i did a dvd at one point on finishing work and i talked about this but you're never really finished so let's just say the latter stages of training right when we're getting the proofing we're moving off rewarding the dog continuously we're making our work look like the finished product right that's important that people realize uh we as dog trainers are probably relatively well aware of this but lots of people are not that dog training is an ongoing process it's not like you get to stop one day and your dog just stays trained forever right so especially if you're doing more complicated behaviors there's maintenance and all of that i'm sure we all learned things at various stages in our life and understood really well did well at and don't have a clue about it right now right i got for instance the example i always use i got a in calculus in college nah there's not a bit of it in my brain anymore not even one little tiny lick right you ask me what the quadratic equation is and i'd be like i have no idea right zero right so there are things that come in and go right away right and so dogs are no different right there are dogs that retain training well for longer periods of time there are others that need more refreshers how quickly a dog gets a concept short-term versus long-term memory and the maintenance and the practice of behavior right and so we're never really finished but we do move off of what i would call the teaching phase and into the generalization and proofing phase and the preparation for having our dogs do the things we're teaching them to do in the environments we expect them to do it right as we go forward [Music]
