If we can answer it, we will answer it. And we'll point you to some information on various products that we sell. Obviously, that's what we're in business for. But we like to help people too. So this is a good one. Not everybody, I talk to people that are just getting dogs, and a lot of people think that dog training is just common sense. It's not common sense. And not everybody understands how the various pieces of equipment work. This question is about pull tabs. And if people that just get dogs, they don't know what a pull tab is. They don't know how to use it. They don't know when to use it. And this is a good one because this person has a friend, and this person bought her friend a pull tab for her puppy, and she has a question about it. She said, I got a friend of mine that I bought a six-inch training tab for her new standard poodle puppy. She's never used one before. How would you describe how to use the tab and when to use it? That's a good question if you're not a dog trainer because how's she supposed to know? She looks at this little pull tab. It's this long. I'll put a little picture on here. And think that it's a leash. Well, you know, Cindy answers her that for puppies, a pull tab is probably not the item that you want to be using with a new puppy. We manage our puppies for a long time. By managing, I mean we don't let our puppies run around the house. We keep them on a six-foot leash. We have six-foot puppy leashes that are thinner leashes. So a pull tab, and the simplest way to explain it is, and I was just talking to one of our new employees. It's not a dog trainer, a video person, is when we get our dogs, we manage them through the six-foot leash. We at some point want to get our dog to where it's working off leash. So how do we do that? Well, we teach them to do everything we want them to do on leash, sit on leash, down on leash, come when we call from six feet away on leash. And at some point in time, we want to wean them off the leash. Well, we don't go directly off leash to nothing. Not even if we go off leash to a remote collar. We don't do it that way. We'll let the dog drag the long leash around. And when the dog's minding pretty good doing that,

긴 리드줄을 빼고 풀 탭을 채웁니다. 그럼 강아지들은 '아, 이제 리드줄이 없네. 목에 있는 이게 뭔지는 모르겠지만 말을 안 들어도 되겠지'라고 생각하죠. 하지만 말을 들어야만 합니다. 풀 탭은 단순히 목걸이를 잡는 것보다 강아지를 쉽게 통제할 수 있는 방법입니다. 강아지에게는 풀 탭을 사용하지 않는 것이 좋은데, 첫 번째 이유는 강아지는 항상 관리해야 하기 때문입니다. 두 번째는 풀 탭을 잡으려 할 때 강아지가 겁을 먹고 도망가지 않게 하기 위해서입니다. 제가 처음 반려견 훈련을 시작했던 아주 오래전 이야기입니다. 그때 긴 줄을 이용해 반려견을 마당에 데리고 나가 불렀을 때 오게끔 훈련하는 것의 중요성에 대해 배웠죠. 핵심은 강아지가 30피트 리드줄의 끝이 어디인지 절대 알 수 없다는 것이었습니다. 만약 제 반려견이 마당 저쪽에서 30피트 리드줄을 하고 뛰어놀 때, 제가 불러도 오지 않는다면, 리드줄의 끝은 이쪽에 있습니다. 제가 그쪽으로 걸어가면 강아지는 저를 신경 쓰지 않아도 됩니다. 아, 잠시만요. 다시 정정하겠습니다. 리드줄의 끝은 이쪽에 있으니 제가 그쪽으로 걸어가면 강아지는 제가 다가오고 있다는 사실을 눈치채지 못합니다. 제가 개에게 다가가면, 개는 숨바꼭질을 하듯 도망쳐 버릴 거예요. 우리는 그런 상황을 원하지 않죠. 풀 탭(pull tab)은 그런 경우에 대비해 아껴두는 것이 좋습니다. 훈련 중에 사용할 수 있는 용도가 있긴 하지만, 강아지에게는 사용하지 마세요. 그 풀 탭은 잘 보관해 두고, 친구분에게는 6피트짜리 강아지용 리드줄을 사주세요. 그리고 저희가 만든 '생후 8주에서 12개월 강아지'에 관한 영상이나 온라인 강의를 추천해 주시는 것이 좋을 것 같습니다.
then we'll take the long leash off and put the pull tab on. And the dogs, the dogs think, oh, I don't have a leash anymore. I don't know what this is on my neck, but I don't have to mind. Well, they do have to mind it. A pull tab is a way of getting control of a dog easily rather than just grab them by the collar. You don't really want to use a pull tab on a puppy because, number one, you need to manage them all the time. Number two, you don't want your puppy shying away from you and running away when you're grabbing for a pull tab. It's the old story when I first started dog training a million years ago. And they were explaining to me the value of keeping your dog on a long line when you take them out in the yard and trying to teach them to come. And the point was that your dog never knows where the end of a 30-foot leash is. So if my dog's running around over here in the yard and he's got a 30-foot leash, and I call him and he doesn't come, well, the end of the leash is over here. I can walk that way and the dog's not worried about me. If I walked up to the dog, he'd play hide and seek and off they go. And we don't want that to happen with a pull tab. So you're better off with a pull tab to save it. There's an application for using it in training, but not on puppies. Save that pull tab, buy your friend a six-foot puppy leash, and then probably get her, I would say, our video or our online course on your puppy eight weeks to 12 months.
